Modern life is hectic. We are all busy and we are all stressed. We are all searching for ways to reconnect with ourselves, our past, and our surroundings. We wake up, we sit in traffic or on transportation. We work. We go home. And the following day we do it again. We all need to take time out to meditate and reconnect.
This is the cornerstone philosophy of the exhibition: Singing Mother Earth.
현대의 삶은 빡빡하다. 모두가 바쁘고 스트레스에 시달린다. 모두가 자기 자신과, 과거와, 주변과 다시금 연결되기를 원한다. 아침에 눈을 뜨고 차나 대중교통을 탄다. 일한다. 집으로 간다. 다음 날에도 이것을 반복한다. 명상을 하고 재결합할 시간이 필요하다.
이것이야말로 ‘노래하는 땅’의 초석이 되는 철학이다
Singing Mother Earth is on show at the Museum of Contemporary Art Busan. It is an eye-opening exhibition that feels somewhat primitive, vibrant, and natural. The exhibition embraces symbols and stimulates the senses, not just through pictures, but through a feeling, a vibe. The colors are rustic and raw. They are earthy and natural. And the scale is at times daunting.
‘노래하는 땅’은 현재 부산현대미술관에서 전시 중이다. 어딘가 원시적이고, 생기 넘치며 자연스러운 느낌을 주는 놀라운 전시다. 상징을 아우르는 이 전시는 비단 그림뿐 아니라 느낌과 분위기를 통해 감각을 자극한다. 투박하고 날 것의 색감을 쓴다. 흙과 같이 자연스럽다. 그 규모는 때로 압도적이다.
Singing Mother Earth tries to connect language with artwork, while highlighting the fact that language doesn’t have to something that separates humans from animals. The curation process began by taking six thematic words and pairing them with indigenous artworks. The idea it that revitalization of indigenous languages is the only way to turn around the destructive process that has occurred during recent human existence.
The languages include the endangered languages of American Indians and Japanese Ainu people, and Jeju Haenyeo language to name a few. The artists have been encouraged to explore nature and ecology through non-verbal symbols to serve as a connection to the living world that has surrounded these indigenous peoples for many years.
‘노래하는 땅’은 인간과 동물이 언어에 의해 분리될 필요가 없다는 사실을 상기시키며 언어와 예술과 결부시키고자 한다. 큐레이션은 여섯 개의 단어를 골라 토착 예술과 결부시키는 것으로 시작한다. 토착 언어를 부활시키는 것이 현대 인간의 존재로 인해 일어난 모든 파괴적 행위를 뒤돌아보는 유일한 방법이라는 생각에서다.
이 언어들은 미국 원주민, 일본 아이누, 제주 해녀의 언어 등 위험에 처한 언어들을 포함하고 있다. 작가들은 비언어적 상징을 통해 자연과 생태계를 탐구하며 오랜 세월 이들 토착민을 둘러싸고 있는 살아있는 세상과의 연결을 추구해왔다.
The exhibition includes multimedia installations that visitors can listen to, see, and touch. But not only that, the strategic positioning of installations on site utilizes the natural beauty that surrounds the Museum of Contemporary Art Buan. The windows open out toward the bright green expanse of Eulsuk island and are the experience of the exhibition, the lush surroundings seem to spark that primitive connection that we feel to our environment.
이 전시는 관람객들이 듣고, 보고, 만들 수 있는 멀티미디어 설치물을 선보이고 이들은 부산현대미술관을 둘러싼 자연의 아름다움을 활용할 수 있는 적재적소의 장소에서 만나볼 수 있다. 푸르고 광활한 을숙도를 향해 열려 있는 창문은 그 자체로 전시의 경험이 되어주며, 주변의 무성한 녹음은 우리가 환경에 대해 느끼는 원시적 연결을 촉발시킨다.
The exhibition runs until February 18th, 2024. Museum of Contemporary Art Buan is open from 10am to 6pm, with the last entry possible 30 minutes before closing time. The museum is open Tuesday through to Sunday (closed Mondays, or Tuesday if Monday is a holiday. There is parking on site, or there are many buses from Hadan; there is even a free shuttle bus from Hadan station

전시 일정은 2024년 2월 18일까지이다. 부산현대미술관은 오전10시부터 오후 6시까지 문을 열고, 폐관 시간 30분 전까지 입장이 가능하다. 화요일부터 일요일까지 개관한다(월요일 휴무, 월요일이 공휴일인 경우 화요일 휴무). 주차장을 갖추고 있는데, 하단에서 미술관까지 가는 버스 노선도 여러 개 있다. 하단 역에서 무료 셔틀버스도 운행한다
