Why for your little dogs? Why not just for dogs?
Well, first, let’s be honest, Koreans tend to be afraid of big dogs even medium-sized ones. My dog is a 13-year-old Shih Tzu.
During all the hikes with her, there are times that she looks behind and asks for my help and there are times that she is even faster than me. Some paths are enjoyable for her, and some are challenging.
So, I will share my 4 experiences hiking mountains with my dog and friends.
왜 하필 소형견일까? 모든 반려견은 안 되는 걸까?
솔직하게 말하자면, 한국인들은 대형견은 물론이고 중형견들도 무서워하는 경향이 있다. 내 반려견은 13살 된 시츄다.
반려견과 함께 산을 오를 때마다 내 강아지는 뒤를 돌아보고 내 도움을 청하기도 했고 나보다 앞서 가기도 했다. 어떤 등산로는 즐거워했고, 또 어떤 등산로는 힘들어했다.
이 글에서는 내 반려견과 친구들과 함께 산을 올랐던 네 가지 경험을 공유하고자 한다.

About the Mountain
산 소개
This mountain is on Yeongdo. You can see Hyunnuil Culture Village close by, which is also a coastal trail. So, if you go to this area, you will experience two activities at once. And if you still feel energized, you can continue your journey on foot to Taejongdae Light House, or in the summer you can enjoy swimming and diving in the hidden spots that locals often visit.
봉래산은 영도구에 위치해 있다. 마찬가지로 해안도로에 위치한 흰여울문화마을이 근처에 있다. 그러니 이 지역에 각 된다면 두 가지를 동시에 체험해볼 수 있다. 여전히 에너지가 남았다면 걸어서 태종대 등대를 보러 갈 수도 있고, 여름에는 부산 사람들이 종종 들리는 숨겨진 장소에서 수영이나 다이빙을 즐길 수도 있다.

From Nampo station exit 6, there are buses to Bongnaesan. It depends on the starting point that you choose.
남포역 6번 출구에서 봉래산으로 가는 버스를 탈 수 있다. 어디에서 등산을 시작하느냐에 따라 다르다.

반려견과의 추억
I tried 2 trails with my dog and my hiking group.
One is from Bandobora Apartment (Bandobora Apartment), which can be accessed by buses 508, 6, and 71. From there, you will be able to go to the peak by completing the Sonbong Peak and Jabong Peak.
The other starting point is from Sinseon Elementary School.
I always go down to the Youth Training Center Shooting Archery (함지골청소년수련관). I wish I could share the video of my little old dog walking with excitement on this mountain.
My favorite path is the zigzag stairs. My dog's favorite path is the ground or the fully brown carpet that you often see in hilly pedestrian areas in Korea. Both my little old dog and I are always tired after this hike. For us, it takes almost 3 hours to complete. If your dog is not old or has longer legs than a Shih Tzu, I am sure this mountain will be relatively easy.

하나는 반도보라 아파트 산책로인데, 버스 508번, 6번, 71번을 타면 갈 수 있다. 이곳에서 손봉이나 자봉으로 오를 수 있다.
또 다른 시작점은 신선초등학교다. 나는 항상 함지골청소년수련관 쪽으로 내려간다. 봉래산을 오르며 내 작은 강아지가 얼마나 신이 났었는지를 보여주는 영상을 공유할 수 있다면 얼마나 좋을까.
내가 가장 좋아하는 부분은 바로 이 지그재그 계단이다. 반려견이 가장 좋아하는 코스는 땅 위를 걷거나 한국에서 언덕길에 종종 깔아놓는 갈색 카펫을 밟고 걷는 것이다. 나와 내 반려견은 언제나 이 등산 뒤에 지치곤 한다. 우리가 이 코스를 완주하려면 거의 3시간이 걸린다. 당신의 반려견이 노견이 아니라면, 혹은 시츄보다 긴 다리를 가지고 있다면 분명 비교적 쉬운 등산이 될 것이다.

About the Mountain
산 소개
This mountain generally can be considered a challenging route which takes an average of 3 hours to complete. Seunghak Mountain is made up of stone steps, dirt paths, and wooden stairs. People often go to this mountain at night but it is recommended to go with a group and bring your flash light because it can be pitch dark. In the summer, it can be boiling hot hiking the mountains as there are no big trees around. There are big trees but only at the very bottom of the mountain.
승학산은 기본적으로 완등하는 데 평균 3시간 정도가 걸리는 꽤 어려운 산이라고 여겨진다. 돌계단, 흙길, 나무계단으로 구성된 코스다. 종종 밤에 등산하는 사람들도 있는데, 이 때는 정말 칠흑처럼 어두울 수 있으니 반드시 여러 사람과 함께 플래시라이트를 챙겨가는 것이 좋다. 여름에는 주변에 큰 나무가 없어 끓는듯한 더위를 맛볼 수 있다. 큰 나무들도 있긴 하지만 아주 낮은 곳에만 있기 때문이다.

As with any mountains in South Korea, there are many hiking trails, but I always go from either Hadan or Dangni subway station. You can start hiking from Dong-A University, Buddhist University (환희불교복지대학), or the Flower Village.
한국의 다른 산들이 그렇듯, 승학산에도 여러 가지 등산로가 존재하지만 나는 하단 또는 당리 역에서만 항상 출발한다. 동아대학교, 환희불교복지대학 또는 꽃마을에서 등산을 시작할 수도 있다.

반려견과의 추억
Both of us love this mountain so much. It is hikeable and the path is easy for us. If you start from Dong-A University, which is not far from Hadan Station, you will feel some difficulties because the inclined path has ground with unstable small rocks here and there. This is the only path that I personally find is not easy. Unlike me, my dog was speeding up and avoiding those little rocks effortlessly. The dirt path and the silver grass here and there were our favorites in this hike.
우리 둘 다 이 산을 너무나 사랑한다. 등산을 할 수 있는 데다 길이 평탄하다. 하단역에서 멀지 않은 동아대학교에서부터 시작한다면 여기저기 불안정한 작은 바위들로 이루어진 경사진 길이어서 상당히 어려울 수 있다. 승학산 등산로 중 개인적으로 쉽지 않다고 느끼는 유일한 등산로다. 나와 달리 내 반려견은 속도를 높여 이 작은 돌들을 쉽게 피할 수 있었다. 흙길과 억새가 곳곳에 있는 길이 우리가 가장 오르기 좋아하는 곳이다.

About the Mountain

Cheonmasan Mountain is located near Amnam-dong, on top of the old neighborhood. From the top of this mountain, you will see a lovely scene of Gamcheon Dong village, Busan Port, and Nam Port.
This mountain has a legend where a horse came down from heaven which is called Yongma, and the mountain itself with the neighborhood surrounding is a horse ranch. This mountain might be small, but it has numerous facilities such as a park named 'Cheonmasan Sculpture Park'. The hike is very easy, you can bring your toddlers too. It’s an easy walk and almost all the time you walk through pine trees.
천마산은 암남동 인근 오래된 동네 꼭대기에 있다. 산 정상에서는 감천동문화마을, 부산항, 남항의 아름다운 풍경을 감상할 수 있다.
이 산에는 용마라고 불리는 말이 하늘에서 내려왔다는 전설이 있어, 산 자체와 동네 전체가 말 목장이다. 천마산은 작을지 모르나 ‘천마산 조각공원’ 등 다양한 시설을 갖추고 있다. 등산로는 매우 평탄해서 유아를 데려와도 괜찮다. 걷기 쉬운데다 거의 언제 어디서나 소나무길을 걷게 된다.

The starting point of this mountain can be from Nuribarago Observatory (누리바라기 전망대), Cheonma Mt Sky Observatory (천마산하늘전망대), Busan Port Observatory (부산항정망대), or Cheonma Village, which can be reached by bus 134 and many more. The nearest subway stations are Toseong and Jagalchi station. There are so many gorgeous starting points that it’s easy to enjoy this small mountain.
누리바라기 전망대, 천마산하늘전망대, 부산항전망대, 천마마을 등에서 출발할 수 있고, 134번 버스를 비롯해 여러 버스로 출발지점까지 갈 수 있다. 가장 가까운 지하철역은 토성역과 자갈치역이다. 이 작은 산을 즐길 수 있는 매력적인 출발지점이 너무나 많다.

This mountain is the one and only mountain that I feel will be perfect for someone who is physically weak. It was so easy to explore that my dog was still full of energy when we arrived at the bottom. Speaking about the route that we took, we walked from Nuribarago Observatory (누리바라기 전망대) along the trail that passes Cheonmasa Temple which we could see from above. There are pine trees along the way which will make you healthier.
After that, we walked up to Cheonma Sculpture Park and then hiked up to the peak. The top of the peak is simple and has no sign marking the elevation. And I do not have a good picture of it. But I highly recommend Cheonmasan Mt for anyone of any age.
이 산은 체력이 약한 사람에게 딱 맞다고 여겨지는 유일한 산이다. 워낙에 평탄한 산이라, 하산을 끝마치고도 내 반려견은 에너지가 넘칠 정도였다. 우리는 누리바라기 전망대 위에서 내려다보이는 천마사를 지나는 산책로를 따라 걸었다. 길을 따라 소나무가 줄지어 있어 건강이 좋아지는 기분이 들 것이다.
그 후에는 천마조각공원까지 걸어간 뒤 정상으로 올라갔다. 봉우리 꼭대기는 단순하고 표고를 표시하는 표지판이 없었다. 이를 보여주는 사진은 가지고 있지 않지만, 남녀노소 누구에게나 천마산을 적극 추천한다.

About the Mountain
산 소개
This mountain is connected to the next mountain Geumnyeonsan Mountain. It is not that high but stretches across Nam-gu, Busanjin-gu, and Suyeong-gu districts. You can enjoy Hwangnyeongsan Mountain during the day and at night. It is perfect for watching the sunset and the nightscape of the city, with the view of those three districts that I mentioned before. If you are visiting by car, you will see the beautiful Gwangan Bridge and the ocean.
Good news for those who do not hike, because you can go here with a car or motorbike.
황령산은 옆에 있는 금련산과 연결되어 있지 않다. 그다지 높지는 않지만 남구, 부산진구, 수영구에 걸쳐 뻗어있는 산이다. 낮이든 밤이든 황령산을 즐길 수 있다. 앞서 말한 세 구의 전망과 함께 도시에 내려앉는 일몰과 야경을 감상하기 딱 좋은 곳이다. 차를 타고 가면 광안대교의 장관과 바다를 볼 수 있다.
자동차나 오토바이를 타고 갈 수 있기 때문에 등산을 즐기지 않는 분들에게도 희소식이라 할 수 있다.

Hwangnyeonsan Mountain and the next two mountains beside it, Haenggyeongsan and Geumyeonsan Mountain are strategically located around subway stations. You can start hiking from any stations on lines 3 and 2 spread in Nam Gu, Busanjin-gu, and Suyeong-gu districts.
황령산과 그 옆에 자리한 두 산 행경산과 금련산은 지하철역 근처에 전략적으로 위치해 있다. 남구, 부산진구, 수영구 지역의 3호선이나 2호선 어느 역에서든 등산을 시작할 수 있다.

반려견과의 추억
I mostly always explore from Jeonpo station, passing Jeonposiyeong apartment, and start hiking from Hwanngnyeongsan Lesports Park to Hwangnyeongsan Mountain. We always go down to the same subway station, which is Geumnyeonsan Station, because we need to soak our feet in the ocean water.
We always take the car road when descending and pass the Geumnyeonsan Youth Training Center. The path is easy for your dogs and your dogs will be happy because there are several dog owners who think the same and bring their dogs to this mountain. Like other mountains, this mountain also has many trails, we have tried a few different trails from the Hwanngnyeongsan Lesports Park to the peak and all are doable for your little dogs.
나는 주로 전포역을 둘러본 뒤 전포시영아파트를 지나 황령산 레포츠 공원에서 황령산까지 등산을 시작하곤 한다. 우리는 언제나 금련산역에 내리는데, 바닷물에 꼭 한 번 발을 담그기 때문이다.
내려갈 때는 항상 자동차 도로를 이용해 금련산 청소년수련원을 지나간다. 나와 같은 생각을 가지고 반려견과 함께 산을 오르는 견주들이 많으니, 당신의 반려견도 편안하고 행복한 하이킹을 즐길 수 있다. 다른 산들과 마찬가지로 이 산에도 여러 가지 산책로가 마련되어 있다. 우리는 레포츠공원에서 정상까지 몇 가지 산책로를 올라 보았는데, 이 글을 읽는 여러분의 작은 반려견도 충분히 오를 수 있는 길이었다.
My dog does coastal trails unaccountably and other smaller and higher mountains too. But for small dogs, I recommend mountains not over 500m in height, and always bring your dog bag with you. Thank you for reading. See you on the hike with your dog.
