But I know I am lucky when the charm of these exotic places is mostly due to the fact that they are different, and not really their quality of life. So it is always good to get back home to beautiful Busan. Great public transportation, friendly, well dressed and honest people and even music and toilet paper in the clean and abundant public toilets! What other city in the world can you leave you bike unlocked and be pretty sure it will be there when you return? It is all these little things on a daily basis that makes me feel lucky that Busan is my home!”

Although spending time at the beach was wonderful given the record-breaking scorching temperatures, the highlight of my summer vacation was going to Hwangnyeongsan Mountain for the first time. The peak offers unparalleled views of the city. The city lights make a night viewing particularly scenic. The mountain should be high on everyone's list of places to visit in Busan.

  “Summer of 2018 has so far been the best summer of my life. Amongst the many reasons, I finally overcame my aqua-phobia. For some strange reasons, all my attempts at learning how to swim proved to be disastrous as I almost drowned 3 times in my life.

  Based on those experiences, I had completely given up on learning how to swim and concluded that I fell under the category of people known as “술병”, meaning people who could never learn how to swim. However, I owe the acquisition of this new life skill to one of you, our esteemed readers, who took my words literally in the past issue when I wrote that I would be seeing you at the beach and taking it a step further, ensured that we not only met at the beach, but also swam together. In the process of fulfilling my words, I finally got to overcome my phobia and swam like a fish at the Gwangalli Beach.

  I hope you all enjoyed your vacation and got the best out of it. I now look forward to the experiences the next season, autumn, will bring and to sharing them with you all.

  “2018년 여름은 내 인생에서 가장 멋진 여름이었습니다. 많은 이유들 중 특별한 이유를 꼽자면, 드디어 물공포증을 극복했기 때문입니다. 무엇 때문인지는 모르겠지만 수영을 배우려던 시도는 3번이나 물에 빠지면서 실패로 돌아가는 줄 알았었거든요.

  이런 경험들을 바탕으로, 저는 수영 배우는 것을 완전히 포기하고, 술을 마시지 못하는 사람들의 '술병'처럼 나 역시 수영을 하지 못한다고 결론 내렸어요. 하지만 나는 내가 지난 호 편집진 에필로그에서 썼던 바다에서 만나자고 했던 말을 기억하는 독자들에게 빚을 졌고, 우리는 해변에서 만나서 함께 수영한 것이나 다름없죠. 내가 썼던 말을 실천하는 과정에서, 나는 마침내 공포증을 극복하고 광안리 바다에서 물고기처럼 헤엄칠 수 있었습니다.
