Around Busan – All This Is So Close!

부산 근교 - 가까이서 즐겨보자!

What a time to be alive! The development of transportation and technology puts us in a situation where we can get around insanely easily. We can ride frequent and cheap public transport to almost anywhere; we have the freedom to pick up a rental car without even interacting with a person. With the Korea’s brilliant public transportation, and an app like SoCar, let’s have a look at places around Busan that are a must during summer!

얼마나 살기 좋은 시대인가! 대중교통과 기술의 발달 덕에 우리는 어디든 놀랍도록 편하게 움직일 수 있다. 편리하고 저렴한 대중교통으로 거의 어디든 갈 수 있다. 누군가와 마주하지 않고도 자유롭게 렌터카를 이용 할 수도 있다. 한국의 대중교통과 쏘카 같은 어플리케이션을 이용해 여름에 반드시 가야 하는 부산 근교 여행지를 알아보자! 

Geoje Island has become much more accessible since the Busan – Geoje bridge opened at the end of 2010. Also known as Geoga Bridge, it is an amazing architectural feat. The route encompasses two bridges and a tunnel that was the world’s deepest immersed roadway tunnel (at 48 meters below mean water level) when it opened. The bridges offer stunning views across the inlet and toward Geoje Island, and Busan. As well as the spectacular views, the bridges open up all that can been seen around Geoje Island, including Hakdong Mongdol Beach, Gyeryongsan, and Windy Hill. You can spend the day hiking the beautiful Gyeryeongsan. Alternatively, you can relax on a pebble beach at Hakdong Mongdol, or visit the many other beaches around the island. For those interested in Korean pop culture, you can visit a place made famous by Korea dramas (Windy Hill). Or you can just relax watching the sunset at Gonggoji, otherwise by walking among the hills and flowers all over the island. Geoje definitely requires a full day to get anywhere near seeing it all, so don’t be in too much of a rush!

거제도는 2010년 부산-거제 간 다리가 개통되며 전보다 훨씬 더 쉽게 갈 수 있다. 거가대교라고 불리는 이 다리는 놀라운 건축학의 산물이다. 거가대교를 통하는 이 길은 두 개의 다리와 개통 당시 가장 깊은 해저터널 (평균 수위면으로부터 48미터 아래)을 지난다. 작은 만을 지나 거제도나 부산으로 향하는 다리 위에서는 절경을 감상할 수 있다. 멋진 볼거리 외에도 다리를 통해 학동 몽돌 해수욕장, 계룡산, 바람의 언덕 등 거제도의 모든 것을 구경할 수 있다. 학동 몽돌 해수욕장 자갈 위에서 휴식을 취하거나 거제도 곳곳의 다른 여러 해수욕장에 들러도 좋겠다. 케이팝에 관심 있는 사람이라면 한국 드라마 장소로 유명한 바람의 언덕을 둘러볼 수도 있다. 공곶이의 일몰을 바라보거나 거제 곳곳의 언덕과 꽃들 사이를 거닐어도 좋을 것이다. 거제도 곳곳의 볼거리를 즐기려면 족히 하루가 필요하니 너무 서두를 필요는 없다!

Another option, is a drive north west toward Miryang. If you’re looking for a small Korean city filled with awesome food and relaxing mountain streams, then Miryang is for you. Miryang has a lot to do including the ice valley and beautiful temples, but in summer we recommend visiting Hobakso after lunch to cool down. Hobakso is a beautiful gorge tucked into the side of Gaji Mountain. It’s only 50km from Busan, as the crow flies, and is a great place to cool down and escape the summer heat. It’s shaded by trees and filled with clear fresh mountain water, and offers a wonderful chance to escape the city.

밀양을 향해 북서쪽으로 여행하는 것도 한 가지 선택지가 될 수 있다. 맛있는 음식이 가득한 작은 도시와 산과 강 속에서 여유로움을 만끽하고 싶다면 밀양이 제격이다. 밀양에는 얼음골과 아름다운 사찰을 비롯해 다양한 볼거리가 있는데, 여름에는 점심 식사 후 찾아가기 좋은 시원한 호박소를 추천한다. 호박소는 가지산 한켠에 자리잡은 아름다운 협곡이다. 부산에서 직선 거리 50km밖에 떨어져 있지 않아 더위에서 벗어나 몸과 마음을 식히기에 딱 맞는 장소다. 도심에서 벗어나 나무가 우거진 그늘과 깨끗한 계곡물을 즐겨 보자.

On the way back from Hobakso why not stop in at Hongnyong waterfall. Hongnyong waterfall is located in Yangsan, and is another brilliant hidden gem. It’s a simple little temple beside a waterfall, and is free to visit. The gushing water creates a cool mist that will give you relief from the hottest of summer days, and it’s a great way to break up the drive back to Busan.

호박소에서 돌아오는 길에는 홍룡폭포에 들려보자. 홍룡폭포는 양산에 있는 또 다른 숨은 보석이다. 폭포 옆에 있는 작고 단촐한 사찰은 언제나 방문 가능하다. 쏟아져 내리는 폭포는 시원한 물보라를 일으키며 더운 여름 날 숨을 돌리기 좋고, 부산으로 돌아오는 운전길을 마무리하기에 좋은 장소다.

Closer to home, a few places that can be accessed easily with public transport are observatory at Bueongsan, and Hoedong Suwonji. This area near Guseo station is a water catchment area surrounded by small hills that offer breathtaking views. A small walk up Bueongsan offers amazing views in both directions of the catchment area. There are plenty of restaurants and cafes around the area that make it a great day trip.

이보다 더 가까이, 대중교통으로 쉽게 갈 수 있는 부산 근교라면 부엉산 전망대와 회동수원지가 있다. 구서역에서 가까운 이곳은 환상적인 절경을 선사하는 작은 언덕으로 둘러싸인 저수지다. 부엉산까지 조금만 걸어가면 저수지 양쪽으로 장관을 볼 수 있다. 근처에 식당과 카페도 많아 당일치기 여행지로 안성맞춤이다.

Or last of all, why not take advantage of the East Sea line on the subway and head up toward Gijang? Some of the beaches around there, such as Ilkwang and Imnang, are still reasonably quiet and undeveloped, thus offering more of a relaxing beach experience. Alternatively, the Gijang area has a plethora of cafes that overlook the East Sea. However, the best option might be to pack your own picnic and visit Orangdae Park.

So this summer make sure you get out of Busan and see all that there is to offer in the surrounding area!

마지막으로 지하철 동해선을 타고 기장으로 가 보면 어떨까? 기장 근처 일광이나 임랑 해변은 아직도 조용하고 개발이 덜 된 곳으로, 보다 느긋한 해변을 즐길 수 있는 곳이다. 기장은 동해 경치를 감상할 수 있는 카페가 잔뜩 들어선 곳이기도 하다. 그 중 최고라면 도시락을 싸서 오랑대공원으로 떠나는 소풍일 것이다. 

올 여름은 부산을 벗어나 근교에서 수많은 볼거리와 즐길거리를 맛보자!
